Regent’s Study Abroad Trip to Oxford
While in college, studying abroad is a fantastic experience and definitely worth the investment! If you have taken general education classes at Regent, then you have encountered C.S. Lewis’ work. The required readings may have sparked your interest in his life and work; if so, the upcoming Oxford study abroad trip may also interest you! This week-long trip highlights the renowned theologian that still impacts many lives today. Students get to explore the city of Oxford, where Lewis lived, and learn more about his contributions to the study of reason, myth, and imagination.
The tour goes from June 21 to July 1, 2023, and is chaperoned by English professors Dr. Elam and Dr. Brown. During your time in England, you will visit some of Lewis’ favorite places, see local monuments, and experience the culture that shaped him! Some of the locations explored are The Kilns (C.S. Lewis’ home), Blackwell’s Bookshop, Bodleian Library, and Magdalen College.
The application is open now until March 3, 2023, and the cost is $2100. Students who apply will be notified of whether they are approved to travel in mid-March. If you plan on applying, it would be wise to get your passport in advance as the process takes awhile.
This journey is an amazing opportunity to learn and see some beautiful parts of Europe. “The most rewarding part of the Oxford trip is getting to know new people interested in learning not only about Lewis but also about each other!” Dr. Elam remarked. “The fellowship on the trip has been the highlight for me each time!” Learning alongside your peers can be rewarding for you too! If this has piqued your interest, more information is available here. On their page, you will even find a video with student testimonials about the trip!
