Regent Alumni Premieres Debut Feature
Virginia Beach filmmaker Jonathan Fox will debut his first feature film, Boardwalk Winter, on February 8. Fox, a Regent University alumnus with an MFA in Screenwriting, serves as the film’s writer, director, and producer. The Daily Runner will send press coverage to the premiere this upcoming Saturday.
Described as a darkly comedic romance, Boardwalk Winter follows a young woman who, upon learning she is dying, scrambles to achieve her childhood dream of getting married—only to struggle with the complexities of modern dating.
Filmed in Virginia Beach, the movie stars Natalie Veater, Chris Maher, and Victoria Jackson. Fox describes the film as “a modern romantic comedy that feels like a classic” with “the wit of Juno and the nostalgia of The Way Way Back.” He hopes to offer audiences “a pure story about the pursuit of marriage” that’s edgier than traditional Hallmark fare yet still suitable for families with teens.
The cast praised Fox’s directorial approach. Jackson commended his balance of vision and collaboration, saying, “He knows what he wants, is true to his vision, but is also open to an actor’s input and ideas.” Veater, who also served as the film’s line producer, called the project “a rare gift” and expressed gratitude for helping bring Fox’s story to life. Maher added, “It’s a great reminder of the importance of human connection… that no one is truly alone, even in their darkest moments.”
Produced by Wondermade Productions, Boardwalk Winter is aiming for a direct-to-streaming release in late spring or early summer of 2025.
