Thankful

I’m thankful for long nights of doubt
That made me sort my worries out
For in those hours, I learned to breathe
To face the storm and feel at peace
I’m thankful for the hours we took
In nooks and sofas, lost in books
Or dappled shade in forts of leaves
With calloused palms and grass-stained knees
I’m thankful for the sunburned days
We laughed until our stomachs ached
Or nights curled up by fireplace glow
With cheeks flushed red from frost and snow
I’m thankful for the green grass hill
And red-roofed house that stand there still
I’m glad that we had just enough
To live on prayers and cling to love
