Regent Students Team for New Comedy Short Film ‘Tapping Out’, at Attic Orpheum Productions

Coming soon is an all-new short film from the creative minds of several Regent students.

Set in 1987, ‘Tapping Out’ follows a pair of overly competitive karate and aerobics instructors, who throughout the film battle it out to win the coveted “Best Instructor of the Year” award at their local YMCA.

‘Tapping Out’ is directed by Jaron Weatherly, with a script written by Weatherly and fellow Regent student Jared Esteban. John Klaves, who previously worked on Esteban’s short film titled ‘Surprise, Surprise’ as the director of photography, joins the ‘Tapping Out’ team as producer.

The piece has been in development throughout the summer of 202. It is expected to film at the end of August in Virginia Beach, Virginia, in a pioneering partnership with the Princess Anne Family YMCA.

Yet another addition to the creative team for ‘Tapping Out’ is assistant director Leila Haddad. In September, she is also set to write and direct ‘Sadie Hawkins,’ another piece for Attic Orpheum Productions, Weatherly’s production banner.

Additionally, collaborators Sage Thomas and Ivana Fruscella have joined the team of students in key production roles. Thomas has co-produced several projects with Weatherly under her banner Chronicle Visuals. One project is the Campus Ministries mini-series ‘Love More, Self Less,’ and she joins the team as the line producer. Fruscella, who has choreographed in pieces such as ‘Dancin’ and ‘Joy’ (both directed by Jaron Weatherly), will serve as the film’s choreographer. Viewers can look forward to several 1980s-inspired jazzercise sequences.

Finally, Regent senior Christopher Wilson, who has experience with Jujitsu, will consult on including martial arts in the film.

‘Tapping Out’ is scheduled for release this Thanksgiving under Jaron Weatherly’s Attic Orpheum Productions banner.
