Deadly shooting takes place at Nevada middle school

This past Monday, a 12-year-old student at Sparks Middle School in Nevada opened fire on two fellow students and a teacher before taking his own life.  While the two students received non-life-threatening injuries, math teacher and former Marine Mike Landsberry was fatally wounded in the assault.

According to several sources, Landsberry approached the shooter after the first student was shot and attempted to talk him down.  This allowed numerous other students the time they needed to escape.  In spite of his efforts, Landsberry was shot and killed.

All shots were fired outside before the start of classes.  While no one is entirely clear of the student’s motives, many who knew the student suspected it had to do with bullying.

Authorities say the handgun belonged to his parents.
