What’s trending for the week of 3/17

From a high-tech Oreo vending machine to the “most hated bachelor,” here is a quick rundown of what’s been trending recently:

  • The Oreo Trending Vending Lounge

At South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, attendees were engaged with an interactive Oreo vending machine created by Mondelez International, a global snacking corporation, and Twitter. Seamlessly blending the worlds of snacking and social networking, the vending machine customized cookies based upon 12 trending flavors, using the hashtag #eatthetweet. After about 2 minutes, a personalized Oreo cookie is created, complimented by a glass of milk at the lounge’s milk bar.

It looks as though the state-of-the-art Oreo maker was showcased only for the SXSW Festival. Nevertheless, there are videos that show the futuristic vending machine in action!

  • Kevin Bacon Explains Importance of ’80s Awareness

According to Kevin Bacon, the younger generation—a.k.a. the millennials—are neglecting the very importance of the ’80s, thus calling for a necessary PSA from the actor himself. He reminisces about Blockbuster, the Rubik’s Cube craze and the challenges of dating in the ’80s. Teaming up with Mashable, the viral video has garnered over 1.5 million views and counting in a matter of two days. Check out the video for yourself!

  • The Most Hated Bachelor: Juan Pablo

Notoriously known for his insensitivity for others and stirring controversy, Juan Pablo is no stranger to the tabloids. From insulting women on The Bachelor to using an R-word in a controversial tweet, Pablo has been deemed as one of the most despicable bachelors. Just recently on The Bachelor finale, Pablo was supposed to get engaged with a bachelorette. Yet, he refused to propose to Nikki, the winner, because he was not sure about marriage with her. In the end, Pablo lost both the lavish engagement ring (returned to the producers of the show) and a girlfriend.

  • An Awkward “First Kiss” Video

In the beginning, 20 strangers are briefly introduced and are instructed to do one thing: kiss. At this point, there are probably two thoughts that will run through your mind: this will be awkward or this will be beautiful. For Tatia Pilieva, the filmmaker, she wanted to explore the depths of human interaction and intimacy, documenting the kiss from beginning to end. As a result, her project has acquired over 34 million in about three days, becoming a viral hit.

If you are prepared, take a look at the video!

  • Not Doing So Well, Obamacare?

With the introduction of Obamacare, the program has pretty much been the center of ridicule, especially issues involved with its website. Due to these obstacles, Obamacare has only gained 4.2 million enrollments, falling short of their projected estimate. In attempt to increase these numbers, President Obama made an appearance on FunnyorDie’s comical interview web show, “Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifanakis.” Shortly after, numbers began rising yet still under desired projections. Perhaps, because of this result, President Obama might make more appearances on television and the Internet to garner more enrollments.
