By Carolyn Mendez
Neil P. McNulty brought a compelling and enthusiastic presentation to Regent University on October 25 when he addressed job opportunities in today’s society. “Change the way you think, opportunities are everywhere and available at all times,” said McNulty as he began his speech on the endless possibilities of finding a job in the midst of economic struggle. As author of The Quick 30/30 Job Solution: Smart Job Search Tips for Surviving Today’s New Economy, McNulty has stood in society as one of the most prominent employment consultants. He began a career in the Military and went on to join Management Recruiters International (MRI) and then to eventually start his own company: McNulty Management Group. Through his brief session, listeners acquired the fundamental steps needed to begin the job hunting process.
McNulty pulled in a wide variety of different people eager to learn his many secrets. Military veterans, graduate students and undergraduate students alike could relate to the points brought out through his teachings. By approaching unemployment from a different and unique angle, McNulty provides an escape route for those who find themselves burdened by the lack of a job.
McNulty snatched the audience’s attention by exclaiming, “It is now okay to break the rules!” He stressed the importance of persistence within the job world. Issues such as locating employers specific email addresses, sending gratuity emails, and perfecting a resume are areas that are often overlooked, but happen to be essential in the employment process. McNulty provided an illustration that included these details. He gave specific tips throughout his presentation that the average person would have overlooked. McNulty offered details including the importance of presentation at job interviews and how to find eligible employers. Looking for employment can be a job itself, but he assured listeners that through vigorous research and planning it could be obtained.
A list of ideas to refer to while on the quest for a job were given at the session. These ideas were taken from McNulty’s book. Some of these tips included areas such as researching in order to find job openings, how to be persistent through the waiting process, how to behave socially once an interview is acquired, and how to avoid the many traps that could abruptly shut off a job opportunity. If done correctly, one will find themselves hired within a brief amount of time.
McNulty believes that opportunity is endless in the job world. “Through twenty years of trial and error, I believe there is a job for everyone,” said McNulty as he addressed the eager listeners. A deeper look into his job hunting strategy could bring an individual into a better understanding of how to avoid today’s economy and land the job they have been searching for.
