A Special Webinar Event: Strategic Challenges for America in the Coming Decade

The Center for Christian Thought and Action would like to invite all Regent students to a special webinar on November 18 from 2:00 – 3:30 PM. The theme of the event will be “National Security in the 2020s: Strategic Challenges for America in the Coming Decade.”

The event will feature three key speakers:  Lt. Gen. (ret.) W.G. Boykin, Rear Adm. (ret) Larry Baucom, and Dr. Eric Patterson. Lt. Gen. Boykin will begin the event with a 35-minute presentation which will be followed by a panel discussion with Adm. Baucom and Dr. Patterson.

About the Speakers

William G. Boykin

Lt. Gen. (Ret.) William G. Boykin is one of America’s most distinguished soldiers. After graduating from Virginia Tech, he entered the U.S. Army and became one of the original members of the U.S. Army’s Delta Force. He was privileged to command these elite warriors in combat operations. Later, Lt. Gen. Boykin commanded all the Army’s Green Berets as well as the Special Warfare Center and School. He has been presented with numerous military awards, including the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster (twice combat-wounded), and both the Defense and Army Distinguished Service Medals. Lt. Gen. Boykin spent 36 years in the army and was involved in numerous high-profile missions, including the 1980 Iran hostage rescue attempt, the 1992 hunt for Pablo Escobar in Colombia, and the Black Hawk Down incident in Mogadishu, Somalia.

Currently, Lt. Gen. Boykin serves as Executive Vice President of the Family Research Council in Washington, DC. He is passionate about spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ and encouraging Christians to become warriors in God’s Kingdom.

Larry Baucom

RADM Larry Baucom graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy. His 31-year career in Naval aviation included achieving over 4,000 hours and 900 carrier landings in Navy fighter aircraft including the F-4 Phantom II and the F-14 Tomcat.

He commanded Fighter Squadron 143, the amphibious assault ship USS TRENTON (LPD 14), and the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70). He was awarded the 1996 U.S. Navy League John Paul Jones Award for inspirational leadership. He subsequently served as a senior advisor for the Navy’s aircraft carrier readiness program and is past president of the World Affairs Council of Greater Hampton Roads. He currently teaches Crisis/Disaster Consequence Management and National Security Affairs as a professional in residence at Regent University.

Eric Patterson

Dr. Eric Patterson is Scholar-at-Large and the former Dean of the Robertson School of Government at Regent University. He served as a White House Fellow and special assistant to the director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management and has spent two stints in the State Department’s Bureau of Political and Military Affairs.

Dr. Patterson has spoken and led seminars at the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), the U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis), the Armed Forces Chaplains Center, National Defense University, the Pentagon, the Naval Postgraduate School, the Foreign Service Institute, and other government venues. He is the author of ten books. Dr. Patterson and his wife Jennifer are parents of two children. He continues to serve as an officer (LTCOL) in the Air National Guard.
