WWJ Look Like?

On March 30 at 9 p.m. EST, Jesus will have a new face. Yep. A special 2-hour event duly titled “The Real Face of Jesus” will premiere this Tuesday on the History Channel. It promises to “bring the world as close as it has ever come to seeing what Jesus may have actually looked like.” But how?
It is all thanks to technology – oh, and the Shroud of Turin. The image imprinted on Shroud of Turin is hardly clear. Because the Shroud was tightly wound around Jesus’ body, the cloth absorbed blood as it was being wrapped. That caused the blood to spread and misalign the facial features. Also, it is thought that the brownish stains on the cloth were created from body oils.
Ray Downing, president of Studio Macbeth, disagrees, believing that his method of computer imaging has exposed what “substance” stained the cloth, thus allowing him to see “the actual face of Jesus.”
He described that, “Jesus’ real face was ‘recreated’ by taking the encoded information and the blood on the shroud and then transforming it into a 3D image…We lifted the blood and isolated it on the computer, so that would sit in air on a transparent background.”
This new study claims that the Shroud shows more than just a flat, stained image in the antique cloth. Researchers insist that the cloth reveals “an astonishing, three-dimensional, sculpture-like figure.”
Spoiler Alert
It seems that, according to the special, Jesus was not the blonde-haired, blue-eyed, make-you-take-a-second-look kind of guy that you would see in movies. Nor was he a tall, dark and ruggedly handsome Jim Caveizel look-a-like. But didn’t we already know this?
As it happens, Jesus was a 5-foot-8, longhaired average Joe – or at least that is the opinion of researchers. At any rate, the study claims to have “the most accurate representation ever seen of what many believe to be Jesus Christ.” What’s more, Downing guarantees that the end will surprise and excite viewers. His hint – he will uncover the sort of 2000-year-old event that would have created the image on the cloth. Any ideas?
