screen-capture-16It’s a Saturday morning in Hampton Roads, and you are starring at your bowl of Cheerios – wondering why you can’t find a more appetizing breakfast. Sure you could go out to eat at I-HOP or Denny’s, but you’ve grown tired of chain restaurants. You long for a hometown eatery with friendly faces and delicious food, while not providing a strain on your bank account. Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name (cue the theme song from “Cheers”). Does a place like that even exist?

Indeed it does! Affectionately known by regulars as “Yorgo’s,” Yorgo’s Bageldashery is a hip local hotspot in the Ghent neighborhood of Norfolk. Yorgo’s serves New York Kosher Style Water Bagels that are so tasty, it will make you wonder how anyone can call those grocery store biscuits, “bagels.”

With flavors ranging from onion to chocolate chip – their bagel varieties are sure to satisfy anyone’s craving. Cream cheese flavors such as raspberry, honey pecan and jalapeno are also offered. However, if you’re not in the mood for one of their traditional bagels, there are plenty of breakfast sandwiches, wraps and even vegan options to choose from.

If you order a regular bagel, expect to be blown away by the generous helping of cream cheese that you will be given. You won’t find any small cream cheese packets here, oh no, we’re talking fresh made spread, sandwiched between two thick bagel slices. This will literally be the most filling bagel you have ever tasted in your life.

*Insider Tip* If you don’t like that much cream cheese on your bagel, just order a tub of it instead. It works out to be near the same price, and then you can control your portion, while having an extra amount to take with you (or add to a second bagel – you know you want to).

Panera enthusiasts beware! Yorgo’s variety of decadent menu items will cause you to forget about that chain café restaurant you once loved.  Located on Colonial Avenue, deep in the heart of the historical Ghent district of Norfolk, the store has a Townie-esque, slightly Bohemian vibe to it. Locals with all different types of lifestyles frequent here including, families, the college crowd, yoga instructors, corporate masterminds and the elderly.

Yorgo’s is open Monday-Friday 6 am – 3 pm, Saturday-Sunday 7 am – 3 pm.
