Jesus "Name above all Names"

“Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, “Tabitha, get up.” She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet.” Acts 9: 40-41

“Tabitha, get up” and that is what she did.

What is in name?

My dear friend Tabitha is in the fight of her life.

She is battling epilepsy, cervical cancer, a broken marriage and being separated from her daughter and eviction. In the midst of it all-

God is telling her “Tabitha, get up.”

You see Tabitha’s mother is a woman of God.

It is no coincidence that she named her youngest daughter “Tabitha.”

In verse 36 of Acts chapter 9, we find Tabitha was a disciple, “always doing good and helping the poor.” The present day Tabitha in the midst of her heartache’s; takes time to volunteer her services to those less fortunate than herself. She is a disciple of God and emulates the love of Jesus wherever she goes.

What I believe God has been showing me through her experience is the power of a name.  Jesus is the name above all names and our source for salvation.  Acts 4:12 reminds us “salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”

Tabitha’s name is that of a woman after God’s heart.

For my friend, Tabitha she was given the name of servant filled discipline for a reason. She is to embody all that Tabitha was in the day of Christ.

So to all you Tabitha’s out there God is telling you “Rise Tabitha Rise.”
