The Dating Experiment

February 15, 2010 by Ashley Andrews · 17 Comments

the posh missMeet Ms. X. She is a confident, witty, young woman full of promise and ambition. She is also unattached. Like a lot of women today, Ms. X is a hapless dater. And what’s worse, she does not know why. But rather than binge on complex carbs or heed the naïve advice of other lost singles, she has turned to blogging.

“…I have to admit that I’ve failed miserably at dating men. Like most women I thought I had men and relationships all figured out. By the end of 2009 I realized that trying to do things my way, or by the standards of the majority, left me heartbroken and carrying around some pretty heavy baggage.”

She admits that, for the most part, she has run her life, not God. This, she believes, is a contributing factor to her dating problem. “As I get older I realize more that being a Christian means me serving God’s will for my life and not my own.”

But, all that is about to change. As she sees it, a new decade calls for a new attitude. And that is why, on January 4, Ms. X became “The Posh Miss” of the Single Life Project.

The Experiment

The Single Life Project is in essence an experiment. Her formula goes like this – 7 Men + 1 Woman – Sex + Love/Drama = The Posh Miss. Let me explain.

For a full year, the Posh Miss will put dating men on the backburner. Instead, she will be courting herself. How you ask? Well, this is where the 7 men come in. These guys, some of whom you may recognize, are Mr. Humanitarian, Mr. Blue Collar, Mr. Faith, Mr. Nice Guy, Mr. Reality Check, and the guy we all know and love Mr. Best Friend, a.k.a “MistaBF.”

These 7 boyfriends, as the Posh Miss describes, are “…wise, street smart, kind-hearted, athletic, spiritual and dare I say- a few of them are straight up FINE!” Their purpose is to mentor the Posh Miss on men and relationships. From January 2009 to January 2010, these guys “…are going to talk about the issues that most men never talk about, publically at least…these men are going to give me, and my readers, the hard facts about dating, love, sex and marriage.” Intrigued much?

Every Friday, the Posh Miss will date a few of the 7 boyfriends. On these dates, she will ask questions that every woman wants to ask but no man wants to answer. So far, her dates (each one is blogged) have tackled issues like, how to find a quality man, when to dress up and when to dress down, how to spot a nice guy, when not to ignore a guy, when to raise or lower personal standards and how to push all man-scarring baggage out the door and out of your life.

The Goal

Ultimately, her goal is to become a better person, a better girlfriend and a better (future) spouse. ““I WANT TO GET MARRIED (one day). It’s my heart’s desire to find a man who loves Christ, loves me and loves the idea of being married…I want to learn to be a strong yet soft woman, the kind of woman who men wish they could marry…I’m not going to start listing my dream man because I am willing to take everything off of the table. This year I am starting my list over because this year is all about me…welcome to the Year of the Woman (YOW).”

So, now that all you single ladies know that you are not alone, the only question remaining is – Do you fancy yourself a Posh Miss? Find out.

After joining the mailing list for this blog, I took on the challenge of being a Posh Miss. And the benefit of interacting with the 7 men has been great mainly because they are always honest in their answers even when it hurts our feelings… But I know that at the end of the year (I am running from February 2010 to February 2011) I will be a better woman and be more equipped to receive the man that God is in the process of preparing for me. Thank you for writing this article on the Ms. X and for giving her the credit she deserves for following God’s Will in her life and in turn helping the rest of us to be encouraged to do the same.
